Submit a play for next season
The Bellingham Theatre Guild Play Selection Committee is seeking submissions from prospective directors for our 2019-2020 season. We welcome everyone to submit projects of interest.
Typically, BTG produces popular musicals and comedies, as well as dramas and other well-known genres. Our audiences have a wide range of interests, and we seek to offer plays that will appeal to an inclusive crowd. Review the plays we have produced since 1929 to get an idea of the types of work BTG produces and which shows we’ve done recently:
The HOLIDAY and CLOSER slots (with 8 weeks of rehearsal) can accommodate musicals or larger shows. The OPENER (at 6 weeks of rehearsal) slot is most conducive for standard rehearsal and technical demands for a straight play. The SMALL slot (3-5 weeks) and MEDIUM slot (5 weeks) are best suited for shows with limited technical needs. When submitting, identify which slot best suits your proposed play.
Deadlines and Selection Process
All submissions are due via the online form by December 1, 2018, with accompanying scripts and support materials also due by December 1. A BTG representative will be available from 4 to 6 pm in the BTG Lobby on December 1 to accept scripts and support materials.
The committee will read all proposals and scripts and will then schedule interviews with directors in early Winter. We typically make a decision on our next season by late Winter.
You may submit up to three proposals for the upcoming season. All proposals must be made via the online form and follow the procedures for submitting copies of the scripts and supporting documents to BTG (see below).
Prepare Your Submission
Use the following worksheet as an aid to build your submission. This PDF is editable and can be saved to your computer as you work; this allows for easy copy-and-paste into the online submission form.

If your project is chosen for next season, we will use the content from this form for publicity, audition notices, season art, etc. Please be as complete and accurate as possible so we can adequately promote your show and honor your vision.
If you have supporting materials, such as set or costume sketches/examples, etc., those may be delivered on or by December 1, 2018; see below for instructions. Links to reviews and wiki pages may be included in the online form.
Submit Your Proposal
Use the online form to submit your proposal:
Submitting Scripts and Supporting Materials
The Play Selection Committee needs to read the official Acting Edition of the production you are proposing. No photocopies, digital copies, or different versions of the same play will be accepted. At the end of the review process, your scripts will be returned to you.
The Play Selection Committee LOVES getting extra information about submitted plays, whether it’s recordings of the music, reviews, design concepts, lists of awards or honors, and whatever you think is appropriate and necessary.
Once you have submitted your proposal online, follow the procedures below for submitting scripts and supporting materials.

Deliver two (2) Acting Editions of your proposed play in person to Sean Walbeck at the Bellingham Theatre Guild between 4:00 and 6:00 pm on December 1, 2018.
Note about Perusals
If the musical or play is only available through perusal from the Publisher, you need to confirm with Sean Walbeck which precise edition of this musical/play you are proposing, so the Play Selection Committee can secure and evaluate that correct script. Photocopies and synopses are not acceptable.
If you have any other questions about script submission, contact Sean Walbeck (Play Selection Chair) at 360-647-9242 or email@example.com for more information.
Thank you for your interest in directing a play at BTG.
