Noises Off | June 9-25, 2017

by Michael Frayn
directed by Teri Grimes

Auditions April 2-4

Called the funniest farce ever written, Noises Off presents a manic menagerie as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing's On. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play.

"The most dexterously realized comedy ever about putting on a comedy. A spectacularly funny, peerless backstage farce. This dizzy, well-known romp is festival of delirium." — The New York Times

Audience Warning: Adult Language and Situations

I and You | July 20-30, 2017

Auditions will be held June 11 and 12, 2017, for

I and You
by Lauren Gunderson
directed by Sean Walbeck
Performances: July 20 - 30

Cast: 2m 2w

Auditions will involve cold readings, with some movement exercises. Reading the script in advance is highly recommended. While the characters are high school students, there is adult language and situations.

*Casting Note: The race of each character can be altered. The only essentiality is that the characters not be the same race.

*ANTHONY, a boy, 17. He is neat, poised, mature for his age. African-American. He's an "A" student, a team player, a nice guy. He's not really great around girls. He takes his homework very seriously. When he likes something (jazz music) he is all in. Throughout the whole play he looks at Caroline like he's trying to figure her out. Like he really needs to know who she is.

*CAROLINE, a girl, 17. She is in comfy clothing, she does not expect company, she is sick, but mainly just looks a little weak and frumpy. She doesn't go out. She is cynical, over it, does not let a stray "feeling" near the surface. White.

Understudies for Anthony & Caroline, also Dance Captain and/or Language Captain, depending on skills, with possible shadow work.

Auditions June 11-12

Warning: Adult language and situations

One afternoon, Anthony arrives unexpectedly at classmate Caroline's door bearing a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, an urgent assignment from their English teacher. Homebound due to illness, Caroline hasn't been to school in months, but she is as quick and sardonic as Anthony is athletic, sensitive, and popular. As these two let down their guards and share their secrets, this seemingly mundane poetry project unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together. I and You is an ode to youth, life, love, and the strange beauty of human connectedness.

"The striking twists and turns along the progression of the rapid-paced work are astonishing, breath-taking, and mind-blowing." — Amanda Gunther, DC Metro Theater Arts
