“Earnest” follows two bachelors, Jack and Algernon, who create alter egos to escape their social obligations. Jack pretends to be his brother “Earnest” while Algie invents an invalid friend named Burbury. Their deceptions become entangled when both men fall in love with Gwendolen and Cicely, leading to a series of comical misunderstandings, romantic entanglements, and a final resolution involving Lady Bracknell and a misplaced handbag.
