How far would you go to make your wishes come true? Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (of beanstalk fame), and a baker and his wife find out when they take a journey into the woods. It’s a magical, bewildering place full of witches, wolves, giants and mysterious strangers, where familiar fairy tales get tangled up together. Wishes come true here, but at a price. Even storybook characters must face the music—of which there is plenty—in Sondheim and Lapine’s irreverent Tony Award–winner.
Some adult language and situations.

An Afternoon Reading of David Ives’ Shorts – A Lend Us Your Ears presentation
LEND US YOUR EARS presents this ridiculously silly collection of short plays by America’s wittiest living playwright as the 2021-22 season’s final Pay-What-You-Will performance in the Bellingham Theatre Guild’s play-reading series.
LEND US YOUR EARS, the reading series at the Bellingham Theatre Guild, concludes this season with An Afternoon Reading of David Ives' Shorts, a collection of short plays by David Ives, on June 18, 2022, at 2pm.
The Pay-What-You-Will performance, directed by BTG Vice President of Production Mish Kriz, includes such rarefied gems as “Time Flies,” “Bolero,” “Degas C’est Moi,” and “Soap Opera,” all replete with the adventurous word-play and fast-paced hilarity for which David Ives is renowned. Arguably the most successful writer of one-act plays in the professional theater of the last thirty years, David Ives tackles the sex cycle of mayflies; mysterious unknown sounds; waking up as the French artist Degas; and the love a repairman has for his subject, with the skilled precision of a master farceur. These plays, performed in this single reading by a skilled gaggle of local actors, contain adult language and situations.
Audience will need to provide proof of vaccination and wear a mask during the performance. Like all previous readings, admission is Pay-What-You-Will at the door, no reservations necessary.
LEND US YOUR EARS (with the mission: Good Plays Read Well) produces matinee readings with local actors in front of the curtains, with general admission seating and the audience choosing what it wants to pay. No reservations necessary and any questions can be directed to LUYE Artistic Director, Sean Walbeck (sean@gigglewax.com, 360-647-9242).
“CUSTOM COLLECTION, BOLERO, SOAP OPERA (IVES), DEGAS C’EST MOI, TIME FLIES is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection (www.dramatists.com)”
