Text by John Cameron Mitchell
Music and lyrics by Stephen Trask
Directed by Joe Urdiales
September 22 - October 8, 2023
Adult language, sexually suggestive material, references to abuse, strobe lights
Tony award-winning Hedwig and the Angry Inch tells the story of "internationally ignored song stylist" Hedwig Schmidt, an East German rock 'n roll goddess. Her outrageous and unexpectedly hilarious story is dazzlingly performed by Hedwig in the form of a rock gig/stand-up comedy routine backed by the hard-rocking band "The Angry Inch." Hedwig describes her painful past and her life's search for "The Origin of Love" and her other half. It's a rocking ride, funny, touching, and ultimately inspiring to anyone who has felt life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile.

Lend Us Your Ears reading series presents “The Half-Life of Marie Curie”
LEND US YOUR EARS, the reading series at the Bellingham Theatre Guild, jumpstarts its sixth season with The Half-Life of Marie Curie, the hit drama from Audible written by the prolific American playwright Lauren Gunderson about the protective friendship of two leading female scientists over decades. The reading performs on September 30th, 2023, at 2pm.
The Pay-What-You-Will performance, directed by Shawn Fuller, follows the travails of Marie Curie, hounded by the press over an affair gone wrong, and the literal and emotional sanctuary offered by her friend, English engineer and suffragette Hertha Ayrton. Their feisty and dynamic relationship, forged in the fires of science, sexism, and an unjust world, sharpens the resolve and the minds of both women, who go on to even greater achievements. Written with great heart and crackling humor by Lauren Gunderson, the original professional production was made into a hit Audible drama with its original cast. Our reading of The Half-Life of Marie Curie will be performed by talented local actors and contains science talk, adult languages, and adult situations.
LEND US YOUR EARS (with the mission: Good Plays Read Well) produces matinee readings with local actors in front of the curtains, with general admission seating and the audience choosing what it wants to pay. No reservations necessary and any questions can be directed to LUYE Artistic Director, Sean Walbeck (sean@gigglewax.com, 360-647-9242).
